Located in one of the fastest growing cities in America, the University of Tampa is quickly becoming one of the most talked about hidden gem universities.
Situated across the river from downtown Tampa, UT is just a quick bridge walk away from the newest cybersecurity capital of the country.
The campus itself is incredibly walkable, and despite it being located in a heavily urban area, the campus itself feels quiet and isolated from the hustle and bustle of downtown.
There is a fair amount of green space across the campus, and it nestles up to one of the core rivers flowing through the city. If you’re in the honor’s program, your dorm is actually ON the river!
Originally a hotel, the core building of Tampa’s campus is based on Moroccan architecture intended to persuade the aristocrats from the Northeast to travel down to Tampa for vacation. Over time, the University bought portions of the hotel to convert into classrooms, and thus the University of Tampa was born.
The campus has grown well beyond the walls of the old hotel and boasts awesome features like a full clinical practice floor for nursing students and a newly renovated center for entrepreneurship, complete with pitch rooms and incubator programs for startup companies.
Tampa is always going to be humid and warm, but if you’re comfortable wearing shorts to class and bathing suits to social events, then UT could be the place for you!
I found it to be a fantastic balance between college lifestyle and downtown offerings, and quite honestly wished I would have visited the campus as a high school student rather than as a counselor!
