If you’re like me, you may not know much about Mobile, Alabama. As a Texas native, I knew it only as the city you drive through to get to the Florida Panhandle.  A port city, Mobile is located on the Gulf of Mexico and has the ability to trick you into thinking there isn’t much to see.  However, upon driving into the town for my college tours, I realized Mobile hides a beautiful landscape and Spring Hill College is no exception. Nestled among one of the nicer suburban neighborhoods I’ve ever seen, Spring Hill sits atop a hill with a golf course surrounding it.  As you make your way up the hill, you’ll see the church situated in what feels like the heart of campus. There is an impressive amount of vegetation, and large trees dangle over the main road that take you in and out of campus.  While the campus itself is over 400 acres, it feels incredibly close as you move through the streets.  It truly does feel like a hidden gem when you see it in person, and I’m convinced the families that live around campus try to keep it a secret so their little paradise doesn’t get too big!

Fun Facts

  • Spring Hill was one of the first integrated schools in the deep south, earning the recognition of Martin Luther King Jr.
  • Spring Hill is one of only 28 Jesuit colleges in the United States

About #TourTuesdays

Throughout the next few months, we are going to highlight various colleges and universities across the globe, some of which you may not have even heard of. Although we have no affiliation with any of these programs, we hope these tour notes will help you discover a new option, learn something new about a school you already know, or encourage you to explore a different type of institution that you otherwise wouldn't have explored.
