Kade started working with Athletes to Athletes later in his high school career. In his second semester of Junior year, Kade had established his grades quite permanently, and was looking to attend a highly rigorous academic institution. He had done an excellent job of setting himself up for success on the academic side, but was having trouble navigating the college communication portion of recruiting. Kade’s A2A advisor helped him strategize his coach communication, not only to position himself with the most amount of opportunity available, but also to determine what these coaches thought about Kade. Kade learned a lot about the coaches he was communicating with by taking a proactive approach in the conversation, and brainstorming both topics and questions beforehand in order to encourage his prospective coaches to share their feelings on his role within the team. By the time application season rolled around, Kade had decided he wanted to attend one of two schools based on his coach interactions and the overall culture and rigor of the college itself. We helped Kade navigate some tough conversations with coaches as we waited for applications to return, as admissions decisions would ultimately determine Kade’s choice of school. Thankfully, Kade took care of business in the classroom and that helped him gain admittance to MIT, his top choice school and he was able to commit to the basketball team the same day of his college acceptance.
