We started working with Harley his freshman year, and it’s safe to say he had a strong interest in rankings. Harley spent a sizable amount of time on Perfect Game’s website, checking rankings of different baseball players at different positions, and a lot of our conversation early in the process included these rankings. In addition, Harley was starting to get some attention from colleges towards the end of his freshman year, which was exciting but it became tough for him to determine what invitations and attention were worth pursuing at this point in his high school career.Athletes to Athletes helped Harley breathe. The recruiting process can feel extremely daunting, and we’ve created a system that makes families feel like if they’re not always at a showcase or always ranking higher than someone else on a third party website, then they’re going to lose their opportunity to play college athletics. We helped Harley breathe, better understand his timeline for college athletics, and demystify the anxiousness around grading systems like Perfect Game (Spoiler alert, they’re mostly not a big deal). Harley is still in high school, and he’s receiving even more college attention than he was before, but he’s learned to pace himself and put his process into perspective. Now he calms his own teammates down when they’re worrying about their Perfect Game score, and he spends more time with his girlfriend and friends like any normal high school kid should. He doesn’t feel obligated to attend every showcase/college tournament he’s invited to via email, but knows to research schools and pursue conversation when there is a college that he’s excited about. We can’t wait to see where Harley ends up, and we’re excited to be a part of his process.
